Harry Carr shot a beautifully accomplished story for this season’s HERO magazine. Here at SHED photographic studio we were drawn to his series of portraits, each depicting a specific designer’s collection and expertly styled by Steve Morris. Carr, a photographer based in London, began shooting fashion and portraiture whilst studying Politics and Sociology at Cambridge University. With both an academic and a creative mind, Carr has continue to shoot fashion and has contributed to CR Fashion Book, i-D, and Numero, whilst simultaneously developing personal projects. His work for HERO is softly lit, and the model carefully considered, often in a slightly unusual stance rather than opting for your stereotypical beauty or full length fashion portrait. Our favourite image is the one you can see above, featuring the fairly young fashion label Gosha Rubchinsky. The image is captured in a stripped back way, the styling not too fussy and the model not too made up.The picture has many different elements of interest; the model’s unorthodox pose, unusual expression, and in particular the contrast of block colours on the clothing to the rest of the frame. A combination of these factors with the natural style lighting makes for an excellent construction and the rest of the series follows with each picture portraying equal individuality. We hope Carr visits us in East London at the photography studio soon! We would love to watch the genius at work!
