At SHED studios we were incredibly excited to discover the work of photographer Marton Perlaki. Originally from Budapest, Marton attended Bàlint György Press Academy (with a major in photojournalism) and Budapest University of Theater and Film Studies, where he graduated with a master‘s degree in cinematography in 2011. His work is highly creative and he could easily be categorised as an artist rather than a photographer, often shooting still lives that he has meticulously constructed and he is a serial self-portraiter. Marton’s signature seems to be manipulation; within his work he often controls and affects all contributors in his image, introducing elements such as fire, bubbles, or smoke. His photographs often appearing as a science experiment captured or a sculpture pictured in the making. However, all his images remain beautiful, a consistent theme throughout, and he has originality that most artists can only aspire to. Based in New York, Marton is represented by the agency Webber, and has had work commissioned by Dior, Carven, and Nike, to name a few. His editorials have included SSAW, T Magazine, AnOther, Time Magazine, Wallpaper, and Holiday Magazine. Marton was also shortlisted for the 2015 Paul Huff Award, was one of Foam’s 2015 New Talent’s and had work included in the 2015 Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery in London. If you haven’t seen his work have a little peak here!
